<about-me>
Hi I'm Dan, welcome to my music website.

I am a pianist, keyboardist and song-writer. I write songs for a new electro-rock group that I am in, and we are currently recording our first album. I tend to write piano-based rock and ballads, but I'm also into electro-pop and drum&bass; anything that I think sounds good.

I love discovering and sharing new music, particularly unheard-of musicians who perform for no better reason than to express themselves in inventive and creative ways. I get much more out of hearing them than I do from large-arena gigs. I suppose I like the appeal of witnessing something real; something that I can relate to.

I have a strong technical background, I read Computer Science at university and I create web applications. I keep a technical reference blog at www.dangarland.co.uk.

My Mission

What I'm trying to do is create a space for my own music, and use it to reach out to other musicians and artists, so that I can find vibey people with whom to collaborate, write and perform; even if it is only the odd track. With the Internet, I've seen how it is possible to find musicians and to work together; now I want to see how far I can go in creating sporadic pieces of music, without a plan or any organisation.

Along the way, I intend to unearth as much new talent as I can. In looking for vocalists for our project, I have heard many talented singers and bands, and felt that I could help promote artists by writing about music I hear and gigs I attend.

I think that if artists do more to promote and help each other, then we can help to build a decentralised, sustainable on-line community of musicians and music-lovers. I believe that people recognise the genuine from the imitation, and all the true musician needs to do is express himself and help others whenever he can.

I have posted some tracks so that you can hear some of the things I'm working on. Some things are fairly old, some relatively new, and none are produced; but I will take the best material and record it with my new band, so please rate the tracks that you like! You can download and keep these tracks for your own personal enjoyment, so long as you don't distribute them or make any money from them.

So I hope you like what you see and hear. Leave me a comment or contact me to let me know what you think.
</about-me>
