Wildfire!
Kung-fu warrior maidens? Fire-breathing dancers? Back-flipping acrobatic nymphs from another world? It seems that Wildfire! could be the tonic that will see me through these cold winter nights.
Wildfire! is a new production from Alison Jones at Shapeshifter productions (who is also my flatmate), is an outdoor event that depicts a fantasy world through dance, music, martial arts and pyrotechnics. Based on Celtic folklore, the story follows a hero who visits a race of scantily-clad warrior women, in order to master the art of combat. The original show is a full hour and fifteen minutes long, but Alison recently got an arts council grant to put-on a taster of the show as the finale of a arts festival in St. Andrews, Scotland. With no dialogue, music is to be at the heart of the show, setting the scene and providing the atmospheric background that creates this alternative world.
So when Alison asked me to play keys I was excited- I've now got three weeks to figure out the keyboard parts to the show and get the arrangements sorted. Its going to be a good field-test of my new rig that I've been building, including MainStage for the mac, so that I can play the part of a bassist as well as a pianist. So if you're in St. Andrews on Monday 30th November, come on down and meet the warrior-maidens...
