Update
Its been two months since my last update. Thankfully, this time, its because I've been too busy on music and technology projects to post.... which is a step forward for me.
Since my last post, I have pushed the button on my own music promotions project, entitled 'most rated', which aims to bring the most popular new music acts to the local scene. The idea, previously swimming aimlessly in my head, took form quite violently on a Thursday, 24th March, when the concept took shape in the form of Bristol creative genius S.J. Esau, my electo-rock project Hercules Rockafella, the synth-rockers Run Don't Walk and my favourite Irishman Aidan Parle. The night was a complete success, considering that I have never organised a gig before, and everyone got paid: the engineer, the acts, the bar. I ended up taking a modest hit on the proceedings, but with a spread of the good-old word-of-mouth I'll be breaking even very soon, including some excellent footage shot by my Ghostship Lantern pals at Cherrywood Productions.
The evening brought together everything I want to see from the Indie scene, flair, enthusiasm, class and ultimately a good audience. Properly marketed, why can't we have a monthly event that comes to be respected on the local scene for its talent?
Since then, I've been working on a permanent web-presence for the project, centered around an Internet radio experience, one that we can all share in, allowing bands to speak to an enthusiastic, local audience, one that will hopefully turn up to the gigs, the next one being Thursday, 5th May.
Meanwhile, I'm trying my best to be responsive as the keyboardist for no less than four bands, over and above my own personal ambitions. Two of my projects, Hercules Rockafella and Ghostship Lanterns, have put out very promising E.P.s in recent months, with much scope for improvement, while the artistic Burning Desire will be performing in under two weeks. A personal milestone for me is being accepted as the keyboardist for 'Sweet Billy Pilgrim', who have already secured succsess with studio albums and have label representation, filling in for their fiendishly difficult new tracks on an upcoming new album release and tour.
Compared with a year ago, my increased stage presense and input into creative projects is much welcomed. Yet those who are loosely following my own solo ambitions need not be concerned: my own solo project has never seemed more assured now that I have successfully collaborated with my new singer Ilys, who has contributed vocals on my track 'Sunrise'. 'Sunrise' represents a departure from the music I was working on 2007-2009, towards a more ambient, trippy, sound in the vein of Zero 7, Massive Attack et al. Very soon, I intend to drop the near-ancient material on this site and announce the new project, but without wanting to jinx it, I'm still working on our first track and keeping the good vibes flowing.
