Rock Fella
I have recently become comfortable in the wearing of hats, this one (pictured) kindly donated by Peter Baike. Currently it serves the dual purpose of regulating my uncouth hairdo and bolstering my self-impression as a musician. Whilst recording parts in the room, the donning of my apex receptacle helps to bring a live edge to the sound, with semi-professional nods to the side-stage mapping the beat. So much so that I layed-down parts to four tracks, soon to be included on the forthcoming E.P. of London 'super-band' Hercules Rockafeller.
HR is a blues-rock band driven by guitarist Stuart Knowles. Stuart is amognst those fortunate souls in possession of a gruff, husky voice in the vein of Rod Stuart, though I've never seen him smoke. His songs capture a live blues tradition with a good-old-rock-and-roll that is of the highest quality. When he asked me then, to improvise piano and synth parts, what manner of fool would I be to refuse? Now, HR is actually more an electro-blues-rock band, but anyone who's worked with me knows that I like to make my mark on things.
The Rockafeller project is a welcome sideline that brings some much-needed focus to my creative aspirations. Sometimes I feel as though I must have been in a semi-coma for the last few months, because I find myself in August much where I was in Febrary, although I now have my own bed. The studio, comprising of two rooms, is as complete for my needs as I could ask for, and I have a bunch of tracks ready to work on. Yet my ideal singing partner remains elusive and there is seemingly still a long-way from seeing my tracks on that coveted gold-disc.
I can hardly believe that, at the start of the week, I was in an office building chipping away at a website, and today I'm perfecting bluesy-flourishes. My skitzophrenic life is what many might call a 'balance' between a paid-job and music, which for the vast majority, sadly brings little financial reward. For good or ill, I have decided that one of these personalities must go, until I have something tangible in my solo project. Rejuvanating this website is part of it- it represents me as a musician, I need to project my vibe into the ether, where my call can be heard and hopefully answered! With this in mind, I have decided to tie-up the loose-end of months of very part-time work on this site and re-launch it, probably in the next few days. Expect to see more blog entries, new tracks and good vibes any day soon.
Bring on the rock fella!
