This is a dancy / drum+bass style piece inspired by the words of one of my heroes: Tony Benn. His book: Dare To Be A Daniel, is a biographical account of his early years, living under the threat of fascism and emerging as a socialist and progressive thinker.

The dialogue is taken from a public meeting he gave at the Old Vic, London (please don't sue me!), but I found them so inspirational that I thought I'd put them to music. It's not simply because I like the sound of my own name!

I'm still experimenting with different drums sounds and styles in this, but please rate+comment and let me know what you think.

Also, the preview you can hear is encoded at a low-bitrate: please sign-up and download the track to hear it properly... its free after all.

Lyrics

My father used to say to me
'Dare to be a Daniel,
Dare to stand alone,
Dare to have a purpose firm,
Dare to let it known'

Hey Dan,
Great effort on the site and the music. Love this track especially. The quote's awesome.
Hope all's good, it's been a while since the days of the NES and the Packard Bell eh?
We should meet up for a pint one of these days.
Take it easy
Stuart (Parkinson)

Hey Stu, great to hear from you! I think the world needs to hear those 8-bit triangular syth sounds of the NES again... some great music in there... I will have to put together some kind of Rik Dangerous Amiga remix one of these days.

Really like this...economy always works.
Downloaded it ...since I am 64 this year..so it proves you have wide appeal....and that I am still a child.
I have suggested to some of my students (vocal coach) to get in touch.

A silver surfer! Fantastic! What's age anyway? I'm 26, I have the sagacity of a 100-year old Tibetan monk but I look 19.

Very glad you liked it Shirley... I would welcome contact from all your students.

Nice track Dan, great lyrics. Love the simplicity of the beat and the melody works really well. Glad you didn't add the lyrics too much as most tracks over do the lyrics.

Nicely done fella.

The speaker is in fact Tony Benn, a well-known politician, famous for being the longest-standing member of parliament. Please don't sue me...!
